We were asked by the The Wistar Institute and Ulf Andersson Ørom to come up with a cover illustration for their new article for the magazine, Trends in Genetics. It should tell the story of their new discovery within the field of RNA.
By closely co-operating with Ulf Andersson Ørom, EIT made the story of how “ncRNA-a7” can as a key, unlock the genome. By reading the following extract, you can form your own judgment about our level of success:

Long non-coding RNAs are transcripts with no protein-coding capacity emerging as major players of the cellular machinery. On pages 433–439 of this issue, Ulf Andersson Ørom and Ramin Shiekhattar describe enhancer-like activities of long ncRNAs which is one of the emerging functions that could be a key element in controlling expression of important genetic loci. The illustration on the cover shows the long non-coding RNA as a key to opening up specific genomic loci, depicted by safety deposit boxes, for one of these long non-coding RNA, ncRNA-a7, regulating Snai1.
